Spindoe: You Come Out From Nothing (ITV 19 Apr 1968, with Richard Hurndall)

In You Come Out From Nothing Alec Spindoe is released from prison after serving five years of a seven year sentence and finds that his gangland empire has been taken over by his former number 2 Eddie Edwards. Edwards has also taken over Spindoe’s wife Shelagh. Edwards is also considering joining forces with the North London gang run by Mackleson. As a further kick where it hurts when Spindoe does manage to see him Edwards offers to take Spindoe back into the fold – in a lowly capacity of course.

The word has been put out that Spindoe is now persona non grata but he’s determined to get his empire back.

The dialogue and general vibe is excellent. In a speech to his ex-wife he makes it clear that he will get her back and doesn’t care about her feelings towards him and if she doesn’t return to him within the next two days he will kill her. He has already marked Eddie for death too.

classic quote
“I came to see you Shelagh but Eddie’s mouth and foaming lager got in the way.”
