Shetland Season 7 Episode 5 (BBC One Wed 7 September 2022)
It is the penultimate episode of the series this week before we say goodbye forever to Jimmy Perez and his team.
As evidence of another bomb maker emerges after Lloyd’s hidden past is revealed, Perez tries to get a feel for the man.
According to Lloyd, he was falsely accused of killing an American police officer and escaped the death penalty. After moving to Shetland and falling in love with Alison, Lloyd constantly worried that his true identity would be discovered. Perez confirms that only Connor was aware of this information and wonders if this could be the reason for the murder.
Connor may have been interested in the 1990 Braer disaster, when crude oil spilled onto the Shetland coast and severely damaged the local economy. The investigation team speaks with locals Ally Flett and Jamie Narey, whose families were most impacted by the incident, to determine whether this could be Connor’s motivation for making bombs.
After Abbie reveals that Martin has been taking pictures of subjects other than wildlife, the net tightens around him. Martin insists to Perez that he is not a bomb maker despite knowing the game is over. A shocking confession that follows throws the entire investigation into disarray.
Although Alison is taken aback by Lloyd’s past, she still shows steadfast loyalty. Meg is wary of getting too close to Perez, and disaster looms when an oil tanker carrying its full cargo is targeted.
Lloyd is played by Patrick Robinson, Perez by Douglas Henshall, Alison by Laurie Brett, Ally Flett by Antony Strachan, Jamie Narey by Grant O’Rourke, Martin by Ladi Emeruwa, Abbie by Lauren Conroy and Meg by Lucianne McEvoy. Also starring Steven Robertson, Shauna Macdonald, Andrew Whipp, Lewis Howden, Anne Kidd, Angus Miller and Stuart McQuarrie.
Shetland is a Silverprint Pictures production for BBC One.
