Britain’s Got Talent, 27 April 2024, ITV1, “Season 17, Episode 3”
Britain’s Got Talent returns for its third episode of the seventeenth season, with another round of talented individuals and groups taking to the stage. Hosted by Ant and Dec, the show will deliver an array of winning (and not so winning) performances as contestants strive to impress the judging panel comprising Bruno Tonioli, Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, and Alesha Dixon.
The winners of Britain’s Got Talent not only take home a substantial cash prize (£250,000 this season) but also earn the prestigious opportunity to perform at the Royal Variety Performance. Previous winners have included singers, dancers, magicians, comedians, and even dogs, showcasing the show’s celebration of diverse talents.
Last week, Rask AI appeared on the first episode. They used AI technology to transform the judges’ faces onto characters from the film The Greatest Showman while performing the movie’s title track. The group consisted of four individuals who, at first glance, appeared to be a run-of-the-mill tribute act. However, they soon revealed their unique talent by using cameras and artificial intelligence to superimpose the judges’ faces onto the film characters.
Rask AI’s performance received mixed reactions from the judges and the audience. While Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli were left amazed and entertained, some viewers at home were less impressed. Some viewers took to social media to express their fatigue with acts using The Greatest Showman and questioned the originality of Rask AI’s performance. There were also debates about whether the use of AI technology should be considered a talent.
Despite the mixed reactions, Rask AI received four “yeses” from the judges and advanced to the next round of the competition. Their performance sparked discussions about the potential ethical implications of AI technology and its impact on the entertainment industry.
