Songs of Praise “Women of Faith” (BBC One Sunday 5 March 2023)
Songs of Praise airs a new episode tonight Sunday 5 March 2023 on BBC One.
“Women of Faith” As part of her research for International Women’s Day, Claire McCollum travels to Glasgow in search of stories of religious women throughout history, including Glasgow’s own St. Enoch. Claire learns about the saint’s background after meeting with theologian Helen Bond and touring the St. Enoch retail center in the city’s downtown. They learn that Saint Mungo was born to a Scottish princess named Enoch who was the victim of an assassination attempt and a rape.
Claire and Helen go to see a fresco of St. Enoch in the city, where they ponder the lack of information regarding Christian women. Helen shares the intriguing but little-known stories of biblical women who were instrumental in the establishment of the church.
In Glasgow, Bayile Adeoti, founder of a social venture that helps women overcome barriers to success in business, is one of the women Laura Wright meets who are putting their faith into action. Meanwhile, on the southwestern edge of Glasgow, Laura meets Audrey Flannagan, manager of a Trussell Trust food bank, and learns how her faith fuels her commitment to social justice.
A variety of Scottish churches are featured in this collection of hymns.
