BBC Unveils Two New Specials to Honour Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool
In honour of the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, the BBC has announced the production of two specials. The first is a Little Gem production called “The Greatest Show on Earth,” and will commemorate the 25 years since the UK last hosted the Eurovision Song Contest by listing 25 reasons why the competition is, in fact, the greatest show on earth.
The second, “The Winner Isn’t,” is a Shearwater Media production out of Merseyside that will follow the contestants who didn’t win but went on to have careers in the music industry.
Rachel Ashdown, BBC’s Lead Commissioner for Eurovision Song Contest 2023, stated: “As the excitement builds for this year’s Contest, we are looking forward to getting things started with these special programmes. They will remind fans of all their favourite moments and be the ultimate guide for people who want to find out more about what the Eurovision Song Contest is all about. These new shows are just a taster of much more to come.”
These programs will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in May. In addition, Windfall Films will make the short postcards for the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. This material will be included in the Contest’s semi-final and final rounds, allowing viewers to become acquainted with the finalists and the musicians competing in the competition. Windfall Films is teaming up with a Ukrainian firm called 23/32 to create the postcards.
