Channel 5 Order New Series “The Motorway Hotel”
BriteSpark Films, a division of the Argonon Group, has been contracted by Channel 5 to create a brand new, access-all-areas documentary series called The Motorway Hotel, which will consist of four 60-minute episodes.
Set near the M6, also known as “Britain’s Backbone,” in the centre of England, the story of The Motorway Hotel tracks the ups and downs of the family-run Moat House Hotel, a busy and fast-paced commuter hotspot. The series centres on a 24-hour hotel that began as a 14th-century farmhouse and now draws guests from all over the United Kingdom via one of the country’s busiest highways, and on the colourful personalities who work there.
Chris, the proprietor of The Moat House and a reluctant retiree who still likes to keep his hand in, has recently handed over the keys to his 26-year-old daughter, Emily. Sisters Stacey and Kirsty, who handle the front desk, have been there since the turn of the millennium and are intimately familiar with the needs of the hotel’s regulars; Ida, the 78-year-old pot washer, is another Moat House mainstay. The production company are hoping for a modern and entertaining take on life in a highway motel reminiscent of the classic TV soap Crossroads, thanks to its setting, backstory, and charismatic locals.
The show will be executive produced by Tom Porter and Nick Godwin for BriteSpark Films, and it was commissioned by Lucy Willis, the commissioning editor for Unscripted at Channel 5 and Paramount+.
