Great Coastal Railway Journeys, 18 April 2024, BBC Two, “The Isle of Anglesey”
Great Coastal Railway Journeys returns with its ninth episode of the third series, airing on BBC Two at 6:30 pm on Thursday 18 April. In this instalment, Michael Portillo continues his exploration of the British coastline by train, arriving at the Isle of Anglesey, where he discovers the unique culinary delights of the region.
The episode begins with Portillo arriving at Bodorgan by train, the only railway line on the island. From there, he ventures to Oriel Môn in Llangefni, where he admires the striking artwork of Anglesey-born artist Kyffin Williams. Returning to the west coast of the island, Portillo finds himself alongside RAF Valley, witnessing the fast-jet training undertaken by RAF and Royal Navy pilots.
The journey then takes Portillo to Wylfa, where he visits the now-defunct nuclear power station. Here, he learns about the complex process of decommissioning the plant and restoring the surrounding landscape.
Great Coastal Railway Journeys airs on BBC Two at 6:30 pm on Thursday 18 April 2024.
