ITV Gives The 1% Club Season 3 Renewal
The 1% Club, hosted by Bafta nominee Lee Mack and produced by Magnum Media, will return for a third successful season on ITV. ITV has announced that there will be two Christmas specials, one in 2019 and another in 2024, bringing the total number of episodes in the third season to 16.
The second season of the Saturday night prime-time show debuted with 3.7 million viewers and a 31% audience share [consolidating to 4.56m in the first week after its episode one TX on 15 April] and drew 3.9 million viewers [according to overnight data] in its second week on the air. In the first few weeks of the show’s airing, the live play along app was the most downloaded app in the world.
What is The 1% About
Each episode of the show begins with a field of 100 contestants, but in order to win the top prize of up to £100,000, they must correctly answer a question that only 1% of the country would get right. Participants of all ages and walks of life are welcome to enter, as there is no need to brush up on general knowledge in order to do well. Reason and common sense are essential for achieving any goal.
In The 1% Club, if a player gets a question wrong, they lose their initial £1000 and it goes into the Prize Pot. The first question of each episode is one that, on average across all episodes, is answered correctly by 90% of the population (based on a sample of 1000 responses from across Britain). The pot grows larger with each incorrect answer given by the contestants.
What does Lee say
“Once again I am delighted to cause household arguments, as kids mock their parents for being not as bright as them. But us grown-ups can stay out as late as we want, so we get the last laugh”
The format has already been licenced in six territories. It has been sold to France, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Israel and Australia.
Who makes The 1% Club
The series is commissioned for ITV by Satmohan Panesar, Commissioning Editor and Sue Murphy, Head of Factual Entertainment.
The 1% Club was created by Dean Nabarro and Andy Auerbach and is a Magnum Media production for ITV.
