Jeopardy! Recap, Winner & Today’s Final Answer, Thursday March 21, 2024
In the Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament, three players battled it out for the top spot: Larissa Kelly, an editor from Richmond, California; Jason Zuffranieri, a mathematics faculty member from Carrollton, Texas; and Leonard Cooper, a doctoral student from Little Rock, Arkansas.
The game categories for the day were “Historic Firsts,” “Characters in Book Series,” “Transportation,” “There Will Be a Test on This,” “The Cinema in 2023,” and “4-Letter Homophones.”
Larissa made an impressive start by doubling her score to 9,200 with a successful Daily Double under the category of “There Will Be a Test on This.” The answer was related to the Turing test and its connection to a movie about Alan Turing.
After the first break, Larissa held a strong lead with 10,800 while Leonard had 600 and Jason had 1,200. The scores entering Double Jeopardy! were Leonard with 1,200, Jason with 4,200, and Larissa still in the lead at 12,000.
Double Jeopardy! introduced new categories such as “The Locals,” “In Your Element,” “Notable Names,” “On the Nose,” “Classic TV,” and “Idioms & Expressions.” Leonard seized an opportunity to double his score during Double Jeopardy!’s first round by correctly answering an element-related question hidden within the category of “In Your Element.”
Jason didn’t let Leonard maintain his lead for long as he doubled his score later in Double Jeopardy! by acing a question in the category of “Notable Names,” which tested knowledge about influential figures such as Keynes and his economic theories.
As Final Jeopardy! approached, Larissa reclaimed her position at the top with a total of 25,200. Jason trailed behind at 19,600, and Leonard held 9,600. The Final Jeopardy! category was “20th Century Novels,” with the clue referencing Virginia Woolf’s distaste for a particular book that omitted explanations and emphasized thoughts between dashes.
Both Larissa and Leonard correctly responded with “What is Ulysses?” to secure their positions in the final rankings. Larissa confidently wagered an additional 15,000, accumulating a grand total of 40,200.
In the end, Leonard finished with a respectable score of 14,300 while Jason amassed 13,600. It was Larissa’s strategic moves and extensive knowledge that ultimately propelled her to victory in today’s episode.
