“Lockerbie:” Colin Firth Headlines Sky & Peacock Original Limited Series
Acclaimed actor Colin Firth, known for his roles in films such as “The King’s Speech” and “A Single Man,” is set to star in the upcoming limited event series “Lockerbie.” The series, a co-production between Carnival Films (part of Universal International Studios) and Sky Studios, will also be available on Peacock in the US. Sky also produced a recent in-depth four part documentary series of the same name.
Firth will portray Dr. Jim Swire, who tragically lost his daughter Flora in the devastating Lockerbie bombing. Alongside his wife Jane, Dr. Swire has tirelessly pursued justice for the victims of the tragedy.
The five-part series will explore the events surrounding Pan Am Flight 103’s explosion over Lockerbie on December 21st, 1988. In addition to killing all passengers and crew onboard, eleven residents of Lockerbie also lost their lives when parts of the plane crashed into the town.
Dr. Swire becomes a spokesperson for UK victims’ families after losing his daughter Flora in this horrific incident. Together with other affected families, he demands truth and justice as he travels across continents and political divides. Driven by grief and an unyielding quest for answers, Jim embarks on a relentless journey that puts not only his stability but also his family life at risk while challenging his trust in the justice system itself.
“Lockerbie” offers an intimate account of one man’s pursuit of truth and justice—an exploration that exposes vulnerabilities within himself even as it sheds light on events from both before and after this tragic disaster.
Production for “Lockerbie” is slated to begin early next year with Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant serving as Executive Producers for Carnival Films alongside Sam Hoyle from Sky Studios. David Harrower leads as writer while Otto Bathurst takes up directorial duties alongside Jim Loach directing one episode.
The series draws inspiration from multiple sources including Jim Swire’s book “The Lockerbie Bombing: A Father’s Search for Justice” and the collaboration of various other contributors.
Fans of Colin Firth can look forward to witnessing his talent once again as he delves into this complex role. Represented by Independent Talent, CAA, and Prosper PR, Firth continues to captivate audiences with his exceptional performances.
“Lockerbie” will be available on Sky and NOW in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria; while Peacock will stream it in the US. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution will handle international sales of the series.
