The BBC has announced that crime series Rebus, based on the best-selling Inspector Rebus novels by Ian Rankin, will launch on Friday, May 17, 2024, with all episodes available on BBC iPlayer from 6:00 AM. The series will also air on BBC Scotland on May 17 and BBC One on May 18.
Rebus stars Outlander’s Richard Rankin as the titular character, Detective Sergeant John Rebus, alongside Brian Ferguson as John’s brother, Michael, and Lucie Shorthouse as Rebus’s investigation partner, Detective Constable Siobhan Clarke. The series is written by Gregory Burke and directed by Niall MacCormick and Fiona Walton, with Burke and Rankin serving as executive producers.
The six-part series reimagines the iconic character of John Rebus as a younger detective sergeant drawn into a violent criminal conflict that turns personal when his brother, a former soldier, crosses the line. Shaken after an encounter with gangster Ger Cafferty, Rebus finds himself questioning his role as a family man and a police officer, especially with his personal life in disarray due to a toxic affair and a strained relationship with his ex-wife.
The supporting cast includes Amy Manson, Neshla Caplan, Noof Ousellam, Stuart Bowman, Caroline Lee Johnson, Sean Buchanan, Thoren Ferguson, and Michelle Duncan.
