“Who Let the Kids Out?” New Series For Channel 5

Published

on

Channel 5 announced today that it has commissioned MGM Alternative UK to produce a new two-part series examining the consequences of letting children roam the globe unsupervised.

Who Let the Kids Out? (w/t) follows several groups of kids, aged 9 to 10, as they deal with a wide variety of comedic, surprising, and illuminating predicaments while their parents observe from a hidden location.

The children will be put through a series of situations meant to test their resourcefulness, self-reliance, moral compass, and ability to solve problems on their own. Each parent, who represents a unique cultural perspective and parenting style, will have an opportunity to guess how their kid will react.

A specialist in child development will analyse the kids’ antics and explain their reactions.During manufacturing, the kids will be under constant supervision.

What kind of insight will the parents gain into their own parenting? Have they aided or harmed their progeny? When the kids return from their adventures, will their parents be pleased of them, surprised, or even shocked? What adjustments will they make as a consequence of their discussions once they are back together?

Daniel Pearl, Commissioning Editor, Unscripted, Paramount + and Channel 5 said: “This is a warm, fun series which takes a closer look at the choices and actions children take when left to their own devices. How has their upbringing influenced the choices they make? How will their parents react when they see how their children react to certain situations?  Following months of COVID lockdowns and restrictions on outdoor play and play with others, it will be interesting to see how this may have influenced children’s behaviour.”

Dom Bird, Senior International Television Executive, MGM Alternative UK, added: “This series promises to be a hugely entertaining and heartwarming look at how children make decisions when they think their parents aren’t around. At the same time, we’re excited to see how the parents react when they witness their kids’ choices from afar. We’ve all wondered what our kids would get up to in certain situations…and now we are about to find out!”

Who Let the Kids Out? (w/t) is produced by MGM Alternative UK for Channel 5 and executive produced by Dom Bird and Sarah May . The series was commissioned by Daniel Pearl, Commissioning Editor, Unscripted, Channel 5 and Paramount +.
