The Brothers: Trade Wind (BBC-1 17 Mar 1974, Jan Harvey)

In Trade Wind it is an episode where its all happening on the home front that’s for sure, Mary confronts Julie and gets a little too much information in return, David finally realises that he doesn’t want to lose Jill. Barbara is having great difficult raising the money to pay off husband Johnny’s debts.

A superb heart to heart between Anne and Susan’s teacher Pamela Graham with Anne explaining her lack of ability in the mothering department with some fabulous dialogue makes this episode a real treat.

Check out possibly the worst kissing scene committed to BBC tape though when Anne finally gives in to temptation with the sleazy Nicholas Fox and watch out too for a small role for Jan Harvey as a friend of Julie’s. Harvey would of course go on to play the lead female role of Jan Howard in Gerard Glaister’s 1980’s version of The Brothers – Howard’s Way.
