Fire up the engines: Here comes Trixie Mattel! This week on BBC Three’s mashup, the MUAs tackle the world of drag; as far as jobs go, this one’s a doozy. MAC Cosmetics, a multinational company, has hired the make-up artists for their newest Viva Glam Campaign.

In this ad campaign, our MUAs are transforming the appearance of five professional drag performers. In addition, Trixie Mattel, the winner of Drag Race All Stars, is coming all the way from Los Angeles to keep an eye on things.

After the MUAs recover from the epicness of what’s to come, they meet their drag artists, some of whom you may recognise (from Black Pepper to Victoria Scone, Dame Dave Lynn to Cheddar Gorgeous and beyond).

Since these performers are experts at applying their own makeup, the stakes are high for our MUAs to create the definitive drag look for the Viva Glam Campaign.

Some MUAs flaunt their knowledge of drag techniques by blocking brows, contouring faces, and overlining lips. The drag performers’ outfits have a significant impact on the style of the looks, which can range from pink petal cheeks to blue spiked eyes.

Trixie has also brought along Jack, a Glow Up alum and her personal MUA, to correct the MUAs’ mistakes and prevent any drag disasters.

The MUAs have a chance to perform their own drag routine the day after at Glow Up studios. No models are used, and the focus is entirely on them. A drag king in their element takes great care to avoid getting any egg on their face, while the drag queen who sticks to more traditional drag fails to impress the judges.

The MUAs and judges are given a rousing time call by a famous Glow Up meme, because it wouldn’t be drag week without one.

After the judges have deliberated, two MUAs will compete in the elimination round known as the Face-Off, where they will have only a limited amount of time to create a new romantic cheek. One contestant will be asked to pack up their tools and leave the event.

Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star is a competition to look for the next big make-up star of tomorrow. Tapping into the huge online passion for extreme make-up transformations, the series will see a talented cast of hopefuls live and work together as they attempt to prove their potential to industry professionals from a multitude of worlds from fashion to film. With regular eliminations, the challenges will not only test their skills under pressure but also give them the opportunity to unleash their creative vision with jaw-dropping results.
