Queerstralia “Series Premiere” (ABC TV Tuesday 28 February 2023)
Queerstralia airs a new episode tonight Tuesday 28 February 2023 on ABC TV.
“Series Premiere” Queerstralia is a revolutionary documentary series hosted by Zo Coombs Marr, a professional lesbian and comedian, in which she uncovers the hidden histories of those who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Over the course of three episodes, the show will destroy straightwashing and explore Australia’s remarkable and hitherto untold Queer past. Gay diggers, lesbian convict gangs, trans pioneers, cross-dressing bushrangers, classic drag acts, and modern day heroes who have fought for acceptance and transformation are all featured.
You will get an appreciation for the ways in which the Queer community has found strength in its diversity and an understanding of the challenges faced by those who are criminalized and pathologized for being themselves as a result of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Stories of protest and prosecution, love and hopelessness, adaptability and resilience will be encountered along the journey. You will see the progress that has been made and the work that still needs to be done in this country.
In the course of the series, Zo will be joined by a wide range of Queer Australians who will reflect on significant milestones in their own lives and our nation’s history. Nayuka Gorrie, an activist, author, and actor, will also be there to provide insight into Indigenous perspectives.
Airdate: Tuesday 28 February 2023 at 8.30pm on ABC TV.
