ABC leads nominations for 2023 AACTA Awards
ABC has received a record 61 AACTA nominations, with The Newsreader Season 2 leading the pack. The network’s Chief Content Officer expressed pride in the recognition of ABC’s diverse talent.
ABC Leads AACTA Nominations
ABC has garnered 61 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) nominations, making it the top nominee among all networks and streamers in the country. The Newsreader Season 2 received the most nominations for the top screen prize, with 15 nods across various categories, including lead acting nominations for Sam Reid and Anna Torv, as well as best drama series.
The winners will be announced at an event on the Gold Coast in February. ABC Chief Content Officer Chris Oliver-Taylor expressed pride in the network’s nominations and commended the talent across the entire slate saying “Congratulations to all our nominated programs, people and independent producers and production companies for this outstanding and well-deserved recognition.”
There are a total of 32 categories at the AACTAs that ABC finalists are competing in, recognizing the best in Australian film, television, documentary, and online production. The dramas on the network received 21 nominations, while the factual and documentary shows received 20 nominations in various categories.
Notable nominations include Best Narrative Comedy Series for Fisk, Gold Diggers, and Utopia, as well as multiple nominations for Fisk, The Dark Emu Story, and Queerstralia.
The nominations cover a wide range of categories, including Best Acting in a Comedy, Best Cinematography in Documentary, Best Costume Design in Television, and more. The AACTA Awards celebrate Australian production excellence and are set to take place in February 2024 on the Gold Coast.
