Aussie Films The Moogai and Every Little Thing to Premiere at 2024 Sundance Festival
Two Australian films, The Moogai and Every Little Thing, have been chosen to be screened at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
The Moogai, a psychological horror film directed by Jon Bell, will have its world premiere and will be the first Australian First Nations title to be featured in the Midnight section of the festival. Every Little Thing, directed by Sally Aitken, will also make its world premiere at the festival in the US Documentary Feature Competition. The festival is set to run from January 18th to January 28th, 2024.
The selection of The Moogai for the Midnight Section at Sundance is being widely celebrated, with Screen Australia’s Head of First Nations, Angela Bates, expressing immense pride in the achievement. The film received development and production funding from Screen Australia’s First Nations Department. The debut feature film, which stars Shari Sebbens, Meyne Wyatt, and rising star Jahdeana Mary, is co-produced by Causeway Films, No Coincidence Media, and has garnered significant support from various investors.
The Australian documentary Every Little Thing, directed by Sally Aitken and produced by WildBear Entertainment’s Bettina Dalton, has been selected to compete in the US Documentary Feature Competition at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. This marks the second time that Aitken and Dalton have had a documentary invited into official competition at the prestigious US film festival.
The Sundance Film Festival has a history of launching Australian works into the US market, with recent successes including Shayda, Run Rabbit Run, Blueback, and Talk to Me. Furthermore, Australian productions such as You Won’t Be Alone, Relic, 52 Tuesdays, and Animal Kingdom have received international recognition off the back of their screenings at Sundance.
