Dylan Wright Wins Australian Idol
Dylan Wright, a singer and guitarist from Northern Rivers, won Australian Idol in the Live finale held last night. He was the first performer on this season of the show and immediately left a lasting impression. The 31-year-old outshined Amy Reeves from Broome, securing a coveted recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment Australia along with $100,000 in prize money. Denvah Baker-Moller, a country singer from Rockhampton, came in third based on public votes, concluding a strong second season for Seven.
Amidst the close competition, Judge Kyle Sandilands commended Dylan, stating, “The whole country adores you, you are phenomenal. You truly deserve this.” Echoing the sentiment, Amy Shark proclaimed, “You define Australian Idol. It’s your time to shine, Dylan. I couldn’t be happier for you.” Overwhelmed with emotion, Dylan, a former painter decorator and devoted family man, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I’m on the verge of tears. Without my family to keep me grounded, I would feel lost.”
The runner-up, Amy, reflected on her journey, noting, “Just a few weeks ago, I was unknown. This competition has opened numerous opportunities for me. I feel like I’ve matured during this experience.” Denvah, who came in third, shared her joy, stating, “I am immensely happy. I feel truly fortunate to have achieved what I did. It brings me immense joy.”
The finale also included performances by Delta Goodrem and a return appearance by Marcia Hines, who disclosed receiving stitches after her recent medical issue. Expressing her gratitude, Marcia thanked everyone for their support, emphasising her dedication to the show.
Looking ahead, Seven has begun auditions for the 2025 season, with an expanded age range from 15 to 30 to 15 to 35, highlighting the viewers’ role in determining the winner of Australian Idol.
