Josh Gates, a seasoned explorer, takes viewers with him as he travels the world in search of answers to some of its most perplexing mysteries. In the new season, he explores five continents in search of lost treasure, facing some of the scariest experiences of his life on one expedition as he dives into a sunken tomb in Africa and recovers looted statues in Cambodia.
On May 24 at 9:00 PM ET/PT, Discovery Channel will premiere the eighth season of EXPEDITION UNKNOWN.
In the first of a two-part episode, Josh joins a team of archaeologists on a mission to the Royal Necropolis of Nuri, where they may make a groundbreaking discovery. There may be an undiscovered royal tomb in the flooded, underground chambers beneath a crumbling pyramid. Only by venturing into the depths of the ocean can one hope to retrieve the mummified remains of an ancient king.
The season follows Josh as he travels to Israel to investigate the claims of two separate groups of researchers who say they have located the biblical city of Bethsaida, where Jesus is said to have performed miracles. Josh goes on a quest for the greatest pirate loot ever stolen in the United Kingdom and dives to the bottom of Lake Superior in search of the mysteriously lost minesweepers of World War I. Josh helps to unearth a buried temple in Cambodia and fights to return the stolen artifacts of the Khmer Empire to their rightful home.
Josh Gates is driven by his insatiable curiosity and his fascination with fabled mysteries to find the truth. In EXPEDITION UNKNOWN, he recounts his travels around the world in search of lost cities, buried treasure, and sacred artefacts, as well as his investigations into famous mysteries that have yet to be solved.
