Lifetime Announces May Lineup with “Mommy Meanest” and “The Bad Guardian”
Lifetime has revealed its movie lineup for May, kicking off with the premiere of “Mommy Meanest” on Saturday, May 11th, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The following week, on May 18th, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, Lifetime will debut “The Bad Guardian,” starring Melissa Joan Hart and La La Anthony.
“Mommy Meanest” (May 11th)
“Mommy Meanest” marks the first time that Lisa Rinna will star alongside her daughter, Delilah Hamlin, in a movie. Inspired by actual events, the film tells the shocking story of a teenage girl, Mia (played by Briana Skye), who is relentlessly cyberbullied and later discovers that the culprit behind the horrific texts is her own mother, Madelyn (portrayed by Rinna).
The official logline for the movie reads: “The story follows divorced mother Madelyn (Rinna), who’s always had a tight bond with her daughter Mia (Briana Skye). But when Mia starts spending more time with her new boyfriend and is on the verge of leaving for college, Madelyn is panicked by her emerging independence. As a protective mother, Madelyn is determined to find the source of the degrading texts and will do anything to help her daughter, bringing them closer together again. As the hundreds of texts become more threatening, Mia begins to wonder if her tormentor is someone closer than she could have ever imagined.”
In the film, Delilah Hamlin portrays Summer, Mia’s friend. “Mommy Meanest” is produced for Lifetime by Stalking Productions in association with Johnson Production Group. Lisa Rinna and Stacy Mandelberg serve as executive producers, with Navid Soofi as producer. The movie is directed by Greg Beeman from a script written by Gregg McBride.
“The Bad Guardian” (May 18th)
“The Bad Guardian,” starring Melissa Joan Hart and La La Anthony, is inspired by countless true stories of individuals placed in the care of a guardian by the courts. The film raises the question: are these caretakers helpful or harmful?
The official synopsis for “The Bad Guardian” is as follows: “When Leigh’s (Melissa Joan Hart) father Jason (Eric Pierpoint) suffers a fall while she’s out of town, the courts assign him a guardian, Janet (La La Anthony). Initially, Janet seems like a great help to Jason. However, things take a dark turn as Janet gains legal control over Jason’s life, placing him in a nursing home and auctioning off his possessions. As Leigh challenges Janet’s actions, the guardian abuses her power to prevent family visits. With Jason’s health deteriorating and Janet refusing a life-saving treatment, Leigh must find the strength to take down the guardian and the corrupt system supporting her.”
“The Bad Guardian” is produced by Allegheny Image Factory, with Jeffrey Tinnell and Robert Tinnell serving as producers. Elizabeth Stephen serves as executive producer, and the film is directed by Claudia Myers from a script by Ashley Gable.
With these two movies, Lifetime continues its tradition of bringing compelling and thought-provoking stories to its audience, shedding light on relevant social issues and offering a mix of entertainment and awareness.
