Sky’s “Small Town, Big Story”: Christina Hendricks and Paddy Considine Star in Chris O’Dowd’s New Original Series

Chris O’Dowd (Moone Boy) has written and directed Small Town, Big Story, a new comedy drama series starring Christina Hendricks (Good Girls, Mad Men) and Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon). Playground and FilmNation Entertainment’s new Sky Original series has begun filming in Ireland, and it will premiere on Sky and the streaming service NOW in the UK and Ireland some time in 2024.
What is Small Town, Big Story about
The six-part series, which as an Equity production shot in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Sky’s primary market, complies with all SAG-AFTRA rules and conditions and contracted pre-strike, follows the residents of the made-up town of Drumbán, a rural village of rattled misfits on the border between Ireland and another world, as they deal with the arrival of a Hollywood production and the resulting exposure of a secret that has been kept hidden since the turn of the millennium.
Wendy Patterson, played by Christina Hendricks, is a hometown girl made good in Los Angeles who returns home with a Hollywood production in tow. Paddy Considine plays Dr. Seamus Proctor, a respected member of the Drumbán community. Catherine Proctor, Seamus’s wife and a local teacher, is played by Eileen Walsh (Catastrophe). Joanne and Sonny Proctor are played by Leia Murphy (Fair City) and David Rawle (Moone Boy), respectively. Andrew Bennett (The Quiet Girl) as Barry Battles, Ruth McCabe (Aisha) as Betty Battles, David Wilmot (Station Eleven, The Alienist), and more to be announced star as the Battles family members. Patrick Martins (The Confessions of Frannie Langton) plays Jules O’Brien.
Who is making the series
Small Town, Big Story was commissioned by Sky Studios for Sky. The comedy drama is a Playground / FilmNation Entertainment production in association with Sky Studios. Executive producers are Colin Callender and Scott Huff for Playground, Stefanie Berk and Milan Popelka for FilmNation Entertainment, and Alex Moody for Sky Studios. Christina Hendricks and Chris O’Dowd are executive producers, Liz Gill is series producer and Directors include Chris O’Dowd, Catherine Morshead as well as Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman. NBCUniversal Global Distribution handle international sales of the series on behalf of Sky Studios.
