The CW Unveils Premiere Dates for New and Returning Alternative Series
New alternative comedies THE GREAT AMERICAN JOKE OFF (March 31; 9:30-10:00PM ET/PT) and TOTALLY WEIRD AND FUNNY (April 8; 9:00-9:30PM & 9:30-10:00PM ET/PT) have been given premiere dates by The CW. The network has also announced premiere dates for the third season of the investigative documentary series MYSTERIES DECODED on Sunday, April 2 (8:00-9:00PM ET/PT) and the twelfth cycle of the improv comedy series WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY? on Friday, March 31 (9:30-10:00PM ET/PT).
The new comedy series THE GREAT AMERICAN JOKE OFF is all about the art of the joke and the people who tell them. The show is hosted by Dulcé Sloan, and each episode features several riotous rounds in which contestants try to tell as many quick gags as they can on given categories, combine unrelated topics to create delicious puns, come up with hilarious set-ups to various punchlines, or even use the texts on an audience member’s phone as inspiration. Dulcé chooses the winning team after each round by voting on who she finds to be the funniest. Dan Patterson conceived and serves as executive producer of THE GREAT AMERICAN JOKE OFF, along with Jed Leventhall and Derek Van Pelt.
In front of a live studio audience, TOTALLY WEIRD AND FUNNY showcases the weirdest, craziest, and funniest videos from the internet and beyond. The hosts of each episode, comedian Mikalah Gordon, stand-up comedian Brian Cooper, and actor Noah Matthews, compete to present the week’s funniest or oddest video clip. In games like “Genuine or Fake,” viewers at home can participate alongside those in the studio audience by trying to identify which of three products presented is the “real” one. David McKenzie conceived and executive produced TOTALLY WEIRD AND FUNNY, and David Martin also serves on the show’s executive production team.
WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY? is an improv comedy game show hosted by Aisha Tyler in which she and a rotating cast of comedians (currently including Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady, and Colin Mochrie) put their comedic chops to the test in a series of games inspired only by suggestions from the host and the studio audience. WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY? was created by Dan Patterson, Mark Leveson, Jimmy Mulville, Ryan Stiles, and Wayne Brady, and is based on the hugely popular U.K. concept that generated a previous American version that aired for eight seasons on ABC. WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY? was developed by Dan Patterson and Mark Leveson of Angst Productions and Hat Trick Productions.
Each episode of the docuseries MYSTERIES DECODED investigates one of America’s greatest unsolved mysteries, looking into new leads and employing cutting-edge technology to reexamine the evidence. Each investigation is lead by Jennifer Marshall, an outstanding U.S. Navy veteran turned private investigator, as she mobilises a team to start on the daunting mission to provide closure to these long-lingering historical problems. Gary Tarpinian and Paninee Theeranuntawat serve as executive producers for the MorningStar Entertainment series MYSTERIES DECIDED.
