The Piano Series 2 Will Premiere Sunday 28 April on Channel 4
“The Piano” is set to return to Channel 4 for its second series, premiering on Sunday, 28 April, 2024, at 9 p.m. The show, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, features judges classical pianist Lang Lang and pop superstar Mika, who will be back to offer their expertise and insights.
The second series will consist of seven episodes, an increase from the previous season’s five. The show will once again celebrate the nation’s favorite instrument by showcase the talents of amateur pianists from across the UK. The contestants will perform on public pianos in train stations across the country, including London St Pancras, Leeds, Glasgow, and Birmingham, sharing their stories and music with commuters.
The first series, which aired in February and March 2023, was a huge success, becoming Channel 4’s best-rating new format since 2017 with an average of 2.7 million viewers. The series winner was Lucy Illingworth, a young blind girl who is also autistic. Illingworth’s victory led to further opportunities, including a performance at the Coronation Concert.
Channel 4’s Chief Content Officer, Ian Katz, expressed his enthusiasm for the show’s return: “In a world full of wannabes seeking their moment in the limelight, ‘The Piano’ was a breath of fresh air. It celebrated ordinary people doing something extraordinary for the sheer love of it.”
The second series of “The Piano” promises to deliver more emotional and uplifting performances, with contestants ranging from nonagenarians to young players, all united by their passion for music.
