BBC One’s Boat Story Profiles: Paterson Joseph is Samuel Wells

Boat Story is the new Harry and Jack Williams thriller premiering soon on BBC One. The series stars Paterson Joseph and here we found out more about the series and Paterson’s role in it.
In the show “Boat Story,” Paterson plays the character Samuel Wells. Samuel is a family man and ex-lawyer who finds himself in a moral quandary when he and another character, Janet, come across a boatload of illegal drugs and two dead bodies. They decide to take the drugs and run, leading to dire consequences as they are pursued by dangerous individuals.
Paterson describes Samuel as a delicate and fragile character who holds his life together on the surface but is internally broken. He was drawn to the complexity of the character and the journey he goes through.
The show explores themes of desperation, morality, and the consequences of one’s actions. Paterson believes that audiences will be divided in their reactions to the story and the choices made by the characters. He also highlights the presence of a formidable villain, played by Tchéky Karyo, and the dynamic between his character and Craig Fairbrass’ character, who physically and mentally terrorize Samuel and Janet.
Filming for “Boat Story” took place in Yorkshire, and Paterson has enjoyed the beauty of the location, particularly Halifax and the Yorkshire Dales.
Paterson Joseph is a British actor born and raised in London. He trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). He has worked extensively in film, television, and theater. He will next appear in the film “WONKA” alongside Timothée Chalamet, directed by Paul King.
Some of Paterson’s previous on-screen credits include “Anansi Boys,” “That Dirty Black Bag,” “Vigil,” “The Mosquito Coast,” “Inside No.9,” “Noughts And Crosses,” “Avenue 5,” “Grantchester,” “Peep Show,” “Green Wing,” “In The Name Of The Father,” and “The Beach.” On stage, he has appeared in productions such as “A Christmas Carol” at the Old Vic, “Troilus and Cressida,” “The Last Days of Don Juan,” “King Lear” with the RSC, “Elmina’s Kitchen,” “St Joan,” “Emperor Jones,” and “The Royal Hunt of the Sun” at the National Theatre.
Boat Story premieres on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday 19 November at 9.00pm.
