ABC Introduces Two New Channels: ABC Family and ABC Entertains
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is launching two new channels on June 3: ABC Family and ABC Entertains. These channels will replace ABC TV Plus and ABC ME, respectively, offering a refreshed and modern take on family and entertainment programming.
ABC Family will be the go-to destination for family-friendly content, airing a diverse range of shows suitable for co-viewing. From 7:30 pm each evening, the channel will broadcast comedies such as Fresh Off the Boat, game shows including Hard Quiz Kids, natural history documentaries like Expedition with Steve Backshall, and movies for all ages.
Meanwhile, ABC Entertains will focus on comedy and entertainment, with a mix of Australian TV premieres and new seasons of popular shows. The channel will feature the second season of the supernatural series Interview with a Vampire, as well as UK thriller Wreck and Louis Theroux Interviews. Friday movie nights return with a range of titles, from Gravity to Superman classics. The channel will also offer morning programming for primary school children, including educational content such as Behind the News.
According to ABC’s Chief Content Officer, Chris Oliver-Taylor, these changes are designed to “simplify and modernise the ABC channels” and adapt to the evolving preferences of audiences. The new channels will make it easier for viewers to find the programs they love, with a focus on a broad range of engaging content.
Roberta Allan, ABC’s Head of Programming, Acquisitions and Streaming, added: “We are excited to be making these changes, further establishing the ABC as a premier destination for family and entertainment viewing. We will be offering more family-friendly shows, long-running entertainment titles, comedies, movies, and much more.”
