ABC TV’s The Newsreader Season 3 Begins Filming in Melbourne
Filming has begun in Melbourne for the third season of the critically acclaimed ABC TV series, The Newsreader. The show, produced by Werner Film Productions and nominated for 15 AACTA awards, features international stars Anna Torv and Sam Reid in leading roles.
The upcoming season will see Torv and Reid reprise their characters, Dale Jennings and Helen Norville, who we first met in 1986. Dale is now known as the ‘King of News’ at News At Six, while Helen has gained recognition for her fearless international reporting. However, when a network decision pits them against each other, their relationship will be tested like never before.
Set in 1989, the new season will follow Dale and Helen as they compete to cover significant historical events such as the Exxon Valdez oil spill, the Tiananmen Square massacre, the boycotts of South Africa’s Apartheid, and the fall of the Berlin Wall.
The supporting cast from previous seasons will also return alongside Torv and Reid. This includes William McInnes, Marg Downey, Chum Ehelepola, Stephen Peacocke, Michelle Lim Davidson, Chai Hansen, and Phillipa Northeast. Joining them is award-winning actor Daniel Henshall.
“In this next instalment of The Newsreader, we are thrilled to be working alongside the talented team at Werner Film Productions,” said Rachel Okine, ABC Head of Scripted. “The Newsreader is an enduring audience and critical favourite, and we can’t wait to showcase the next chapter of this world-class Australian drama on ABC.”
