Channel 4’s Everyone Else Burns Returns for a Second Series
The RTS award-winning comedy series Everyone Else Burns is back for a second season, with filming currently underway in Heaton Moor, Greater Manchester. The show, which first aired in January 2023, garnered critical acclaim and was nominated for Best Comedy at the 2024 Broadcast Awards.
Co-written by Dillon Mapletoft and Oliver Taylor, Everyone Else Burns centres on the Lewis family, who are members of a puritanical Christian sect known as The Order. The family navigates modern life in Manchester while preparing for Armageddon and trying to avoid eternal damnation. The show explores the tensions between faith, family, and identity in a world that could end at any moment—or perhaps not.
The second series will see the return of Simon Bird (The Inbetweeners) as the family patriarch, David, alongside Kate O’Flynn (Landscapers) as his wife, Fiona, and Amy James-Kelly (Military Wives) as their daughter, Rachel. Harry Connor (Robin and the Hoods) also reprises his role as the couple’s 12-year-old son, Aaron. Joining the cast is Sian Clifford (Fleabag) as Maude, a new character whose warped perspective on domesticity threatens to disrupt the family dynamics.
Season two will delve into Rachel’s quest for independence and her resistance to an arranged marriage. Fiona will confront her past, while Aaron takes on a revolutionary bid to modernise The Order. David, meanwhile, finds himself facing new challenges as he attempts to be a ”good dad’ and encounters romantic interest from an unexpected source.
Speaking about the second series, Channel 4 Commissioning Editor Laura Riseam expressed her excitement: “I’m elated that the Lewis family have (so far) survived eternal damnation for long enough in order to deliver another series of the excellent Everyone Else Burns for viewers. I’m very grateful to the brilliant minds of Oli and Dillon and the whole team.”
With its unique blend of satire and heart, Everyone Else Burns has struck a chord with audiences and critics alike. The first series received praise for its sharp writing, well-drawn characters, and ability to balance humour with the serious exploration of family dynamics within a religious sect.
