J.Lo Battles Killer Robots in Netflix’s “Atlas”

Netflix has released the official trailer for its upcoming sci-fi action film “Atlas,” starring Jennifer Lopez as a mech pilot. The trailer offers a glimpse into a world where humanity’s use of AI-powered robots to wage war has gone awry, and only one woman can save the day.

“Atlas” is directed by Brad Peyton, known for his work on San Andreas and Rampage. It is written by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite, and produced by Peyton, Lopez, Jeff Fierson, Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina, Greg Berlanti, and Sarah Schechter.

The film is set in a future where AI-powered robots are used for military purposes, but this technology has a dark side. Lopez plays Atlas Shepherd, a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence. When a mission to capture a renegade robot goes wrong, Atlas finds herself stranded on a distant planet, forced to confront her fears and rely on AI to survive.

The trailer showcases Lopez’s character in action, donning a mechanical battle armor suit as she flees from danger. The film also stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Gregory James Cohan, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla, and Mark Strong.

The story’s central theme, as described by Peyton, is “how difficult it is to trust people.” Lopez herself described the film as “a story of friendship and a love story, in a way.”

“Atlas” is set to premiere on Netflix on May 24, 2024.
