Crime Thriller THE BEAST MUST DIE Set to Premiere on ITVX on 29 April
“The Beast Must Die,” a five-part Britbox Original, is set to make its premiere on ITVX on April 29, 2024. This gripping series, originally released in 2021, has been adapted from the classic crime novel written by Nicholas Blake, the pseudonym for esteemed poet Cecil Day Lewis, father of actor Daniel Day Lewis. The novel itself, published in 1938 and featuring detective Nigel Strangeways as its protagonist, stands as one of Blake’s most well-known works. In 1968, it was also adapted into a BBC TV version; however, this new iteration brings the story into the present day.
The narrative follows Frances Cairnes (played by Cush Jumbo), a grieving mother who discovers that the police investigation into her son Martie’s fatal hit-and-run has been abruptly closed. Fueled by an insatiable desire for justice, Frances takes matters into her own hands. Adopting the guise of a novelist researching a murder-mystery, she infiltrates the family of George Rattery (portrayed by Jared Harris), whom she suspects to be responsible for her son’s untimely demise. With calculated precision and determination fueling her every move, Frances devises a plan to take revenge against George.
On the other side of this intricate web lies Detective Nigel Strangeways (played by Billy Howle), haunted by his own personal demons following the recent loss of his partner and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). As he throws himself headfirst into uncovering the truth behind Martie’s tragedy, Strangeways begins to suspect that his own department may have concealed George’s involvement in the incident.
The series takes an unexpected turn when Strangeways discovers that Frances is living undercover with George and his family. Suddenly tasked with both proving George’s guilt and thwarting Frances’ plans for vengeance before further lives are lost, Strangeways finds himself caught in a tense race against time.
With an all-star cast and a captivating storyline that intertwines themes of justice, grief, and revenge, “The Beast Must Die” promises to grip viewers from start to finish. Don’t miss its ITVX premiere on April 29, 2024.
