What can we expect from this episode

In The Inheritance, three siblings deal with the aftermath of a death in the family.

The absence of a bequest sends them on a perilous quest to determine whether the victim’s death was an unfortunate accident or the result of foul play.

As they desperately try to reclaim their inheritance and make sense of what is happening, the siblings ask the question, “Is blood really thicker than water?” as secrets are revealed, relationships are torn apart, and lives are lost.

After their father Dennis (Larry Lamb) passes away suddenly, Sian (Gaynor Faye), Daniel (Robert James-Collier), and Chloe Watson (Jemima Rooper) are shocked to learn that he has left everything to a woman they have never met, including the family home. A woman who, it seems, had an affair with their father for 14 years before marrying him secretly.

The siblings’ trust in Susan (Samantha Bond) as a reliable source of information about their father’s death begins to erode as they begin to question everything they’ve ever been told about their father. Why didn’t he tell them he was having memory problems and about her? Why does he have chemicals and booze stashed all over his house? And why does his will specify cremation when he was always meant to be laid to rest beside his siblings’ mum?

The kids are trying to figure it out, but they have no idea that they’re being watched. At least one person is keeping tabs on Dennis and his family via home video. What’s more, they’re all keeping secrets from one another that could cause irreparable damage to their already fragile relationships.

The next day, at their father’s funeral, the coroner unexpectedly arrives, claiming she has reason to suspect foul play in Dennis’s death just before his body is to be cremated…

The Inheritance follows siblings Daniel, Sian and Chloe who are part of a seemingly close and loving family. The trio are left reeling after the sudden death of their father, Dennis and are later devastated to discover they have not been left their expected inheritance in his will.

This leads them to question whether he really did die in an accident, as they were told, or if he was murdered. Their investigation takes them down a dangerous path and sees secrets unravel, relationships ripped apart and lives lost.
