Comic Relief’s Arctic Challenge Reveals Celebrity Lineup
Comic Relief is gearing up for its coldest ever challenge, featuring Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies, TV personality Vicky Pattison, Football Focus presenter Alex Scott, and TV presenter Laura Whitmore. The four celebrities will brave the freezing Arctic landscape for four days to raise money for Comic Relief’s mission of tackling poverty and injustice worldwide.
During the challenge, the participants will trek, ski, and cycle towards a finish line located 50km away. With only eight hours of daylight each day and temperatures dropping as low as -20°C, they will face extreme conditions. They will have to pitch their own tents with limited food supplies and no running water, heating or electricity.
Alex Scott expressed her anticipation for the grueling challenge: “This challenge is going to be so grueling; I’ve never done anything like it before… I’m used to having that captain’s armband on and people seeing me as a leader because I was that athlete, but this is all new so I think you might see a different side to me.” She acknowledged her competitive nature but emphasized that raising money for Comic Relief is what truly motivates her.
Sir Lenny Henry recently announced that he will be stepping down as presenter of Comic Relief Red Nose Day after this year’s telethon in March. Reflecting on his involvement since its inception in 1985, Sir Lenny Henry said: “When we first started Comic Relief back in 1985…I never dreamed we’d still be here today…that enthusiasm and determination to step up and help others has never wavered.”
As life president of Comic Relief, Sir Lenny Henry expressed excitement about new presenters taking over: “I’m excited to see some new and familiar faces come forward now to present the big night and lead us into the next chapter.”
Before the telethon itself airs on BBC One and iPlayer next month, viewers can enjoy live performances from Aisling Bea, Joel Dommett, Fatiha El-Ghorri, Rosie Jones, Sara Pascoe, Mawaan Rizwan, and Sir Lenny Henry on Monday, February 26th.
Comic Relief’s Arctic challenge promises to showcase the remarkable power of women in making a difference in the world. The event aims to raise funds that will contribute to changing lives both in the UK and around the globe.
