“Down in the Valley” With Nicco Annan, Set for Starz in 2024
STARZ has officially given the green light to a new documentary series titled “Down in the Valley,” inspired by the vibrant world of their hit show, “P-Valley.” Set to premiere later in 2024, this six-part series will be hosted and executive produced by Nicco Annan, who is best known for his role as “Uncle Clifford” on “P-Valley.”
“Down in the Valley” will take viewers on an intriguing journey through the Deep South, showcasing its complex and diverse culture. From strip clubs to rap performances, sex workshops to ancient hoodoo rituals, Annan will immerse himself in the people, sensuality, music, and stories that make up this captivating region.
The series aims to uncover the surprising aspects of life in the Deep South and shed light on a side of Southern culture that is often overlooked. Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming for STARZ, expressed her excitement for the project: “‘Down in the Valley’ is a natural companion to our hit scripted series… Viewers will be captivated by the parallels drawn between real-life experiences of Southern communities and the compelling narratives Katori shares in ‘P-Valley.’”
Nicco Annan himself shared his enthusiasm for bringing this documentary series to audiences: “I can’t wait for ya’ll to get a taste of this fiercely unpredictable, deep-dive dance into Southern culture… The audience will immerse and connect with culture beyond the narrow lens of their everyday neighborhoods.”
The partnership between Annan and Katori Hall, Pulitzer Prize winner and creator of “P-Valley,” ensures an authentic representation of Southern Black culture throughout this exploration. Hall will serve as an executive producer alongside Annan.
Produced by Zero Point Zero for STARZ, “Down in the Valley” promises to provide viewers with a unique understanding and cultural exchange centered around the real South. Showrunner Shoshana Guy emphasized their commitment to showcasing the real experiences of Southern communities and sharing compelling narratives.
The premiere date will be announced in due course, allowing viewers to dive into the vibrant world of “Down in the Valley” and experience all that the real South has to offer.
