Jeopardy! Recap, Winner and Final Answer Wednesday March 20, 2024
In the latest episode of Jeopardy!, three contestants faced off in game one of the Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament. Andrew He, a stay-at-home dad from Concord, California; Pam Mueller, a justice researcher originally from Chicago, Illinois; and Dan Pawson, a global health consultant from Arlington, Virginia competed for the ultimate prize.
The first round categories included “The Historic 1990s,” “First Names,” “Mission: Plausible,” “Wheaties Athletes,” “Bestselling Books,” and “The Vocabulary of Ice Ice Baby.” Andrew took a risk by wagering 1,000 on a true Daily Double question about the historic events of the 1990s. However, his gamble didn’t pay off as he lost those points.
Entering the second round with scores of Dan – 3,200, Pam – 6.800, and Andrew – 600, the stakes were high. The Double Jeopardy! round featured categories such as “19th Century Newspaper Publishers,” “The Directing Brothers,” “Undeniable Chemistry,” “It’s A Big Country,” “Violent Art,” and “Overlaps.”
Andrew made an impressive comeback by correctly answering two consecutive Daily Double questions about Italy’s claim to Cyrenaica and Frederick Douglass founding an antislavery paper called “The North Star.” His winnings skyrocketed to put him in a commanding lead.
Pam managed to keep herself in contention with half of Andrew’s score heading into Final Jeopardy!, while Dan struggled throughout the game.
For Final Jeopardy!, the category was “Trailblazers.” Only Andrew answered correctly with Who was Yuri Gagarin? as the foremost member of the Sochi Six group who tragically died in a plane crash in 1968.
With final scores of Dan – 0, Pam – 0, and Andrew – 33,601 points—thanks to his correct response in the final round—Andrew secured his victory and advanced to the next stage of the tournament.
