Nat Geo Announces Docuseries “Top Gun: The Next Generation”
National Geographic, in partnership with Rex, a part of Zinc Media Group, has announced a new documentary series called “Top Gun: The Next Generation” (working title). This exciting series will provide viewers with unprecedented access to one of the U.S. Navy’s most rigorous training and selection programs. The show will follow a group of exceptional U.S. Navy student pilots as they strive to become part of the next generation of elite strike fighter pilots.
The series will focus on the officers as they undergo the challenging Advanced Flight Training Program, which includes demanding flight tests such as landing on an aircraft carrier at sea. Only the best of the best will have the opportunity to fly the F-35C Lightning II, the world’s most advanced jet. Through the eyes of a diverse group of Navy student pilots, viewers will witness their emotional journeys both in the air and on the ground, as they face immense pressure and strive to prove themselves worthy of flying the F-35C.
“Top Gun: The Next Generation” will feature breathtaking aerial sequences that showcase the intensity and skill required to become a Navy strike fighter pilot. Additionally, the series will provide intimate moments that reveal the emotions and personal challenges faced by the young candidates.
The documentary series will be produced by Rex, a label under Zinc Media, and will be led by Karen Edwards as the showrunner. Tanya Shaw will serve as the executive producer for the series. Lana Salah will take on the role of series director. National Geographic’s commissioning editor, Simon Raikes, will oversee the project, while Charlie Parsons, the senior vice president of Development, and Tom McDonald executive vice president, Global Factual and Unscripted Content are on board for Nat Geo.
