The Crown on Netflix: A Historic Image and Final Episode
Netflix’s popular series, The Crown, has released a new image showcasing the three actresses who have each portrayed Queen Elizabeth for different seasons. Claire Foy played the role in Seasons 1 and 2, Olivia Colman took over for Seasons 3 and 4, and Imelda Staunton will portray the Queen in Seasons 5 and 6. All three actresses will appear together in the final episode of The Crown, which launched on Netflix on Thursday, 14th December.
The final episode will see Queen Elizabeth grappling with the passing of her sister and mother, her Golden Jubilee, and her decision to approve the marriage between Prince Charles and Camilla. As she approaches her ninth decade, the Queen is forced to reflect on her reign and consider her legacy, as well as the future of the monarchy.
This marks the conclusion of the first global Netflix Original show to be produced and filmed in the UK. The Crown has achieved substantial success since its debut on Netflix in 2016, receiving numerous award nominations and wins. Notably, in 2021, the series became the first drama to sweep all 7 major categories at the Emmys and received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama Series for every season.
The fictional dramatisation, inspired by real events, chronicles the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and the personal and political events that shaped it. The final season will consist of 10 episodes, split into two parts, with episodes 1-4 in Part 1 and episodes 5-10 in Part 2. The series was created and written by Peter Morgan and features a strong ensemble cast including Imelda Staunton, Jonathan Pryce, Lesley Manville, Dominic West, Elizabeth Debicki, and others.
