Shetland

The Shetland Islands, an archipelago unlike any other, takes centre stage in this brand-new documentary series, ‘Shetland: Scotland’s Wondrous Isles,’ premiering on Channel 5 on Sunday 26 May. The first episode introduces viewers to the tiny island of Noss and its wardens, Jen and Sally, who live off the grid. They navigate unpredictable weather patterns and grow their food while bearing witness to the region’s spectacular wildlife.

The episode looks into the lives and passions of Shetland’s residents and newcomers alike. We meet renowned breeder Carole, who showcases her newest pony at the annual Unst show, hoping to follow in her father’s footsteps and win a prestigious trophy. Elizabeth, a Canadian who now calls Shetland home, combines her love for cooking with her new venture as a hand on a mackerel fishing boat. The artistic talents of Janette, a newcomer to the islands, are also highlighted as she captures the beauty of the landscape in her stunning seascapes.
