Griff’s Canadian Adventure Series Premiere Sat 30 April on ABC TV

Griff Rhys Jones, British comedian and travel aficionado, travels across Canada in search of what makes each province tantalisingly unique yet distinctly Canadian.

Griff Rhys Jones, a British comedian and travel aficionado, embarks on a trek across Canada, the world’s second largest country. Griff will travel over 4000 miles, nearly 7000 kilometres, from Newfoundland and Labrador on the harsh Atlantic Coast in the east, all the way across the country to Vancouver Island in the Pacific Northwest.

Griff will discover what makes each region tantalisingly unique while remaining distinctly Canadian; from the Frenchness of cosmopolitan Quebec City and Montreal in Quebec to the solitude and chill of Manitoba’s frigid North and the richness of Alberta and Saskatchewan’s vast prairies. He’ll discuss how each province’s history has shaped its present, past, and future, as well as contributed form the Canada of today.

Throughout his travels, he’ll face the task of appreciating each province from the perspective of a resident. Is he going to take a genuine Canadian memento with him when he leaves Ontario? Is he able to decipher what it means to be a good cook in Newfoundland and Labrador? Will he be able to rejuvenate his mind, body, and spirit during his stay in British Columbia? Each assignment will allow him to live like a local and learn about parts of life unique to each province, with the assistance of the local characters and experts he meets along the route.

The First Episode – Newfoundland’s Magnificence: Griff explores Newfoundland and Labrador in this first episode, revealing what makes Canada distinctively unique and undeniably ‘large’.
