48 Hours: The Day My Mother Vanished” tells the heartwrenching story of Nicki Myers Bates and her 17-year search for her missing mother, Tammy Myers. Just 7 years old when her mother disappeared in 2006, Bates is now on a desperate quest for answers and justice. The show will air at 10.00pm on Saturday, May 11, on the CBS Television Network, with streaming available on Paramount+.

As Bates recounts to correspondent Peter Van Sant, her determination to uncover the truth and find her mother’s remains is all-consuming. “I try to focus on my kids and my husband, but they will tell you I’m determined… I’m on my computer, looking at maps, looking at old areas and how they’ve changed,” she says.

The case takes a tragic turn with the involvement of William Greer, the man Myers had been living with. Found intoxicated and half-naked on the side of a road just days after Myers’ disappearance, Greer confessed to police that he watched Myers die, but without a body or probable cause, investigators couldn’t make an arrest.

It wasn’t until over a decade later that Greer was located in Mexico, thanks to the efforts of retired U.S. Marshal Leslie Ramin. Despite finally having a suspect in custody, the case presented a challenge for prosecutors—could they secure a conviction without a body?

Van Sant’s report uncovers the complexities of the investigation, including stunning revelations and a search for Myers involving over two dozen volunteers. Bates remains steadfast in her quest for a resting place for her mother, saying, “I’m just trying to stay hopeful for myself and my children. I don’t want to give up.”
