The renowned automobile race, the Indianapolis 500, returns for its 108th edition at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The event, also known as “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” spans from May 24 to May 27, 2024, with the race taking place on Sunday, May 26. 33 engines will roar into life, reaching speeds over 230 mph.

The action-packed weekend kicked off with Carb Day on May 24, featuring the final practice session for drivers, the Pit Stop Challenge, and a concert. Legends Day follows on May 25, offering autograph sessions, the public Drivers’ Meeting, and the Indy 500 Festival Parade in downtown Indianapolis. Race day sees an early start, with gates opening at 6:00 am and cars moving to the pit lane at 9:00 am. The green flag is expected to drop at 12:45 pm, signaling the start of the high-octane race. Leading the pack is the Corvette E-Ray, the quickest production Corvette in history, boasting electrified All-Wheel Drive.

The Indianapolis 500 holds the distinction of being the largest single-day sporting event globally, with a track capacity of around 400,000 spectators. Its long history dates back to 1911, and it has become synonymous with traditions like the winner drinking a bottle of milk and having their name inscribed on the Borg-Warner Trophy.

Among the favorites to win this year are Scott McLaughlin, starting from pole position and consistently performing well in practices; Josef Newgarden, the reigning champion aiming for consecutive wins; and Will Power, a veteran with a history of success at the Brickyard. Kyle Larson, Pato O’Ward, Alex Palou, and Hélio Castroneves are also strong contenders, each bringing their own impressive credentials to the track.
