He then boards a traditional boat and navigates the Rio Negro, a tributary of the Amazon River, with his indigenous guide, Saru. Saru introduces Robson to the boat that will be their home for the next few days and teaches him essential survival skills in the forest. However, a giant bee serves as a painful reminder of the diverse and mysterious creatures that inhabit the Amazon.
As Robson travels north, deeper into the wilderness, he discovers a remarkable school on the banks of the river. Here, students are taught in both Portuguese and their indigenous language, and Robson learns about the importance of this intercultural education from his guide, Saru, who shares his own experiences with language. The school also surprises Robson by housing Olympic athletes in training.
Back on the boat, Robson engages in a friendly fishing competition with Saru, targeting the infamous meat-eating piranhas. As night falls, they listen to the symphony of croaking tree frogs and humming insects, witnessing the jungle transform under the cover of darkness. Robson also visits a turtle sanctuary, where he witnesses the hatching of a baby turtle and joins efforts to release yellow-spotted river turtles back into their natural habitat, contributing to the conservation of these delicate ecosystems.
