Oprah Sits Down For Three New OWN Spotlight Specials Set to Premiere This Fall
The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) will be airing three new OWN Spotlight specials this fall. These specials will feature conversations between Oprah Winfrey and notable individuals such as Kerry Washington, Nicole Avant, Courtney B. Vance, and Dr. Robin. The discussions will revolve around the memoirs of these individuals and will tackle important issues and concerns facing Black lives.
The first special, “OWN Spotlight: Oprah & Kerry Washington,” will premiere on October 28th. In this episode, Oprah invites Emmy-winning actress and political activist Kerry Washington to her home to discuss Washington’s new memoir, Thicker Than Water. The conversation will delve into Washington’s difficult childhood trauma, struggles with body image and mental health, and a shocking family secret that changed her life. Washington will also open up about her battles with an eating disorder and suicidal thoughts, as well as how acting saved her life.
The second special, “OWN Spotlight: Oprah & Nicole Avant,” will air on November 4th. This intimate conversation will feature filmmaker, diplomat, and philanthropist Nicole Avant. Oprah and Avant will reminisce about Avant’s childhood, which was filled with visits from influential figures like Sidney Poitier, Muhammed Ali, Whitney Houston, and Bill Clinton. Avant will also share the terrifying moment when she learned about her mother’s tragic death, and how she has learned to navigate grief and remain positive and hopeful through her new memoir, Think You’ll Be Happy: Moving Through Grief with Grit, Grace, and Gratitude.
The third and final special, “OWN Spotlight: Oprah, Courtney B. Vance & Dr. Robin,” will premiere on November 11th. This episode will feature a powerful discussion between Oprah, Tony and two-time Emmy winner Courtney B. Vance, and renowned psychologist Dr. Robin Smith. The trio will address the question of how to uplift and empower Black men in a world that often fails to recognize their humanity. Vance and Smith, co-authors of the book The Invisible Ache: Black Men Identifying Their Pain and Reclaiming their Power, will shed light on the critical issue of mental health among Black men in America. The episode will also include live discussion with a group of black men around the country.
