Patton Oswalt Will Host “The 1% Club” on Prime Video & FOX
Prime Video has announced that comedian, actor, and writer Patton Oswalt will be the host of The 1% Club, a new series set to premiere on Prime Video in the U.S. and Canada. The show, based on a hit international format and produced by BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions and Magnum Media, will also have an exclusive telecast on FOX.
The 1% Club has gained significant popularity in Europe after its successful run in the UK. It has since launched internationally in countries like the Netherlands, Australia, Germany, France, Israel, Spain, and Turkey.
Lauren Anderson, head of AVOD Originals at Amazon MGM Studios said that Patton Oswalt was the ideal person to bring this addictive format to life: “Patton’s distinct combination of warmth and wit made him the ideal person to bring this addictive format to life for North American Prime Video customers and Fox’s linear audience.”
Oswalt himself expressed his excitement about hosting the show: “As a proud member of the 90%, it’s a privilege to host this show.”
Rob Wade CEO of FOX Entertainment spoke highly of their partnership with Amazon: “By teaming up with Amazon we effectively showcase the complementary value of linear and streaming audiences through this differentiated launch strategy.”
The 1% Club is an entertaining game show that tests contestants’ intelligence based on scientific surveys. It offers viewers an opportunity to test their own knowledge alongside contestants as they answer questions that can lead to both right answers and amusing wrong answers along the way. Success in answering enough questions correctly could earn participants a place in “the 1% club”—a group that can proudly claim to have outwitted 99% of the population.
Ryan O’Dowd from BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions commended Amazon’s passion for the series: “From the very beginning, the entire Amazon team has displayed a deep unwavering passion for…the show.”
The collaboration between Prime Video and FOX Entertainment began with the hit animated series Hazbin Hotel, and this partnership is further extended with The 1% Club.
The series is executive produced by Ryan O’Dowd and Krystal Whitney for BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions, alongside Dean Nabarro and Andy Auerbach for Magnum Media. Wes Kauble serves as the showrunner.
Patton Oswalt has made a name for himself in various areas of entertainment, including stand-up comedy, acting, and writing. He has appeared in films such as Ratatouille, Young Adult, and Big Fan. On television, he has had memorable roles on shows like Parks and Recreation and The King of Queens. Oswalt has received multiple Grammy nominations for his comedy albums.
The release date for The 1% Club is yet to be announced. This exciting collaboration between Amazon Prime Video and FOX promises to deliver engaging content that will entertain audiences across linear television and streaming platforms alike.
