The ITV1 series Red Eye airs its sixth and final episode on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at 9:05 PM.
In a flashback to the night of the crash, the story explores a new perspective on the events at the Beijing conference center and nightclub. As the truth about the conspiracy unfolds, Nolan (Richard Armitage), Hana and Delaney (Lesley Sharp) find themselves fleeing for their lives, and a familiar face changes everything.
The episode reveals the significance of the nano SIM card retrieved from Nolan’s body. It contains evidence of a plot by CIA agent Mike Maxwell to frame the Chinese government. The card holds two versions of a computer code, one of which has been manipulated to target and control Chinese-built nuclear reactors in the UK. As the plot unravels, the identities of the killers are exposed, along with their connection to the rogue CIA operation.
Delaney’s suspicion of Maxwell’s involvement grows as she realizes he has an informant on the plane. A daring plan is hatched to lure Maxwell out of the US embassy, resulting in his arrest by Chinese authorities.
The episode builds to a climactic moment when Maxwell attempts to shoot Hana, but Nolan sacrifices himself by taking the bullet. Thankfully, Nolan survives, and the episode concludes with a touching moment as Hana receives a file from her father containing details about her mother’s final days.
Although the series does have a final feel, there is plenty of scope for a second season, I could quite easily see Hana seconded from the police force into working with Delaney for another case.
Red Eye Series Finale airs Sunday, May 26, 2024, at 9:05 PM on ITV1.
