Ryan Seacrest Steps Up to ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Hosting Duties, New Promo Teases the Transition

Wheel of Fortune

A new era is about to begin for the iconic game show ‘Wheel of Fortune‘ as Ryan Seacrest takes over hosting duties from the legendary Pat Sajak, who is set to retire after 41 years. A 10-second promo aired on ABC during Monday’s episode of ‘American Idol’, featuring Seacrest and long-time letter-turner Vanna White.

In the promo, Seacrest walks onto the familiar ‘Wheel of Fortune’ set, expressing awe as he takes in the iconic wheel. White flips over a puzzle that spells out his name, welcoming him to the show. “Ryan Seacrest joins Vanna White this fall on Wheel of Fortune,” the voiceover announces, adding, “New host, same place.”

Sajak, who has been the lead host since 1981, announced his retirement last year, with his final episode set to air on June 7, 2024. Seacrest, known for his hosting roles on shows like ‘American Idol‘ and ‘Live with Kelly and Ryan‘, will officially take the reins for Season 42, scheduled to premiere in September 2024.

White, a beloved fixture on the show since 1982, will continue as co-host, ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining the show’s familiar feel for viewers.

Seacrest shared his excitement and gratitude when his role was announced last year: “I can say, along with the rest of America, that it’s been a privilege and pure joy to watch Pat and Vanna on our television screens for an unprecedented 40 years, making us smile every night and feel right at home with them.”
