The Matchmakers Series Premiere Wednesday 14 February on SBS
Tonight, SBS presents the premiere of “The Matchmakers.” This brand new series follows three matchmakers as they embark on the task of pairing up their most recent unlucky-in-love singles. Each matchmaker brings their own unique approach and expertise to the table, promising an intriguing exploration of modern-day matchmaking.
In tonight’s episode, matchmaker Toby focuses her efforts on finding suitable partners for two singles within her Jewish community networks. Karen, who remains hopeful at 42 that she can still find love and start a family, is seeking a genuine connection. Similarly, Becky, a Paediatric Registrar, desires a true partnership with someone who shares her values. However, both Karen and Becky must first submit themselves to Toby’s distinct approach and learn to trust her instincts as their matchmaker.
Meanwhile, Hindu Recruitment Consultant Abhi is showcased as an eligible bachelor with great qualities—a good job and a newly built home. The catch? His house happens to be located right behind his parents’ residence. As the viewers delve into Abhi’s journey in search of love, they will gain insight into the intricacies of marrying not just an individual but an entire family in Indian culture.
Also featured in this episode is Sheikh Alaa Elzokm at Melbourne’s Heidelberg Mosque. Known for uniting numerous couples throughout the year through marriage ceremonies conducted at his mosque, Sheikh Alaa Elzokm goes beyond simply officiating weddings—he takes on a role as a matchmaker before the big day arrives. We are introduced to Volkan, a 41-year-old Hospitality Manager who has experienced divorce once before but remains open to pursuing love again. The Sheikh recognizes that while divorce may be accepted within the Islamic faith, it can pose cultural challenges when it comes to finding new romantic connections.
“The Matchmakers” offers an intimate glimpse into these personal journeys while shedding light on various cultural perspectives surrounding love and relationships. Don’t miss the premiere of this new series at 7:30pm on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, only on SBS.
