ITV Orders New Windrush Documentary
ITV Orders New Windrush Documentary.
ITV, in conjunction with the Pride of Britain, has commissioned a new documentary to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the Empire Windrush ship at Tilbury Docks, telling the story of the generation that left the Caribbean for a new life in Britain.
What can we expect from the documentary
Famous people like Sir Trevor McDonald, Alesha Dixon, Mel B, Judy Love, and HRH the Prince of Wales will sit down with members of the Windrush generation to hear their stories.
In doing so, they will gain a profound and illuminating understanding of the lives of the over half a million people of the Windrush generation who came to Britain between 1948 and 1971, primarily to work in the National Health Service and the transport networks.
The 1×60 film the Windrush Generation [working title], filmed all over the United Kingdom and produced by Multistory Media [part of ITV Studios], will bring together stories celebrating their contributions to British life and culture while also shedding light on the reality of the struggle many faced to gain citizenship despite having lived and paid taxes in the United Kingdom for many years due to what became known as the Windrush scandal.
Who is making the documentary
The film is being made in association with Pride of Britain and the Daily Mirror. It is commissioned for ITV by Nicola Lloyd, Factual Commissioning Editor and Sue Murphy, Head of Factual Entertainment. The director is Jessica Phillips.
The documentary will air later this year.
