New Untitled BBC Thriller from BAFTA Winning Nicôle Lecky Announced
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, has announced that Nicôle Lecky, fresh off the success of the BAFTA-winning Mood, has written her second drama for the BBC.
What can we expect from the series
Taking place in a gated community in the Home Counties, the show focuses on three generations: a group of teenagers, their mothers, and the rest of the neighbourhood. How far are we willing to go to protect our children is the topic of this provocative and deliciously honest look at mother-daughter relationships in the age of social media, hidden apps, and peer pressure. How much do preteen girls really know about their mothers? Who is influencing these young women negatively if the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree? Even in a perfect town, the message of “Like mother, like daughter” rings loudly in a world where danger lurks just below the surface.
Lorna, a black South London businesswoman who has made it on her own, and Juliet, a white woman who was born into the same privileged gated community, are the protagonists of a new six-part untitled series from Firebird Pictures for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Daughters Grace and Allegra, two young women, are the best of friends. Primrose Estate is a utopia for the ultra-wealthy and their precious young children.
That is until a shocking scandal at their elite private school implicates Grace and Allegra, forcing Juliet and Lorna to choose sides and testing the limits of their friendship. Cracks within the community threaten to reveal the elitist ugly and betrayal beneath as poisonous secrets and lies ripple through the heart of the idyllic town and a teenager goes missing. Because it has become clear that not everyone is who they claim to be, especially those in the top 1%.
Thrilled to be working with the BBC again – Nicôle Lecky
Nicôle Lecky says: “I am truly thrilled to be working with the BBC again alongside the incredible Liz Kilgarriff and the team at Firebird Pictures. Creating the world so far has been a lot of fun and I am looking forward to finding our four amazing female leads in Juliet, Lorna, Grace and Allegra. Dark humour, big twists and bags of attitude are what makes this show so juicy – not to mention a killer soundtrack and wardrobe. I can’t wait to bring it to the screen.”
Who is making the series
The 6 x 60 series is produced by Firebird Pictures, one of BBC Studios’ owned production labels, for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. It is written and created by Nicôle Lecky. The executive producers are Elizabeth Kilgarriff, Nicôle Lecky, Ayela Butt and Lucy Richer for the BBC.
