The Brockman family is back. BBC One will air a new Christmas special of the award-winning comedy “Outnumbered,” reuniting its cast and creators.
Co-creators Guy Jenkin and Andy Hamilton have written and directed the episode, which features Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner as Pete and Sue Brockman, now in a downsized home and trying to get the whole family together for a Christmas dinner. The story focuses on the couple’s parenting challenges as their adult children lead independent lives.
Tyger Drew-Honey, Daniel Roche, and Ramona Marquez reprise their roles as the Brockman children, now grown up. The special explores the family dynamic and the unique brand of humor that made the series popular.
Hugh Dennis commented on the reunion, saying, “I can’t wait for the Brockmans to be back together again. Pete and Sue have downsized, the children are no longer children, but I’m sure family life will be chaotic.”
Claire Skinner shared his enthusiasm, adding, “I look forward to being reunited with my TV family. Working on this BBC comedy is a joy.”
“Outnumbered” aired from 2007 to 2014, attracting awards and nominations for its realistic portrayal of family life. The show utilized semi-improvised scenes with its child actors. The last time the family got together on screen was for a 2016 Christmas edition.
Jon Petrie, Director of BBC Comedy, expressed gratitude for the special, stating, “We’re grateful to Guy, Andy, Hattrick, and the cast for bringing back this beloved sitcom.”
Executive producer Jimmy Mulville added, “It’s a chance to see what happened to the Brockmans since we last saw them. Andy and Guy’s comedy is unmissable.”
The 40 minute is a Hat Trick Production for BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
